One of the Two Girls tried out Salt when it first opened around five years ago.
I remember a dinner menu with a disproportionate amount of fried food. Which is not totally all bad. Sometimes saturated fat and carbohydrates are the day’s order.
I recently rediscovered Salt on lunch breaks on my fortnightly study day. I only got to enjoy a few during the semester but I was pleased with the good quality pides and burgers and a fabulous glass of pinot grigio that the attentive wait staff remembered for me. I would just ask for a glass of the wine with the delightful pale salmon colour and they did the rest.
Both of the Two Girls took our work team there for breakfast a few months ago and it was close to an unanimous conclusion that the breakfast was definitely worth the while. The Two Girls decided to meet up on a beautiful Saturday morning to validate that experience and here’s what we found.
Salt is so Saturday morning breakfast popular we had a brief wait for a table. Think this through folks, it is Main Road Moonah and this place is pumping.

The breakfast menu ranges from toast and condiments at $4.50 to the most expensive items: the middle eastern breakfast (zatar scrambled eggs, homemade baked beans, yoghurt balls, olives, baba-gnoush and their TO DIE FOR flat bread) or the smoked salmon, poached eggs, potato, roast capsicum, red onion, baby spinach and aioli for $17.50.
One of the Two Girls repeated her first breakfast experience with the pesto scrambled eggs, roasted tomatoes, harissa chutney and that flat bread for $16 and the other went for the impressive middle eastern breakfast.

You will find good breakfast options on this menu: eggs including flat bread for just $8.50 which might just be the best value in town; French toast; pancakes; omelette; baked eggs and breakfast wrap; but they all have a little Je ne sais quoi.
The service team are delightful and we are full of praise for owners and brothers, Hassan Assi (Hash) front of house and Youssef Assi (Joe) rockin’ the kitchen. One of the Two Girls might have convinced Youssef to do special delivery flat bread supplies for her – yes, it is that good!

The downside to this establishment is it is a bit clanky, there is a television turned on often and the time to deliver breakfast was noticeable although not unfortunately long (they were flat out).
Overall we only have their praise to sing. We think Salt might just do the best breakfasts in Hobart at the moment. They are great value and their menu options bring something different to Hobart's breakfast table.
