Dawat 'The Invitation'

New Indian on the Block!

The Two Girls love living in Hobart’s northern suburbs. You know we have a fondness for food. So you can imagine our excitement when new kid on the block, Dawat ‘The Invitation’ Indian restaurant, opened in Moonah recently.
Tip: Dawat is a 1974 Bollywood drama film directed by B. R.Ishara

An extensive menu can be found at Dawat. The selection of starters are all the things that you would expect from an Indian restaurant, Vegetable Samosa $5, Onion Bhaji $5, Seekh Kebab $8, Tandoori Chicken $10, to name just a few.
There are a huge selection of vegetarian and meat options for your main meal, in your choice of mild, medium or hot.

The Gore Grind Devotee is not a fan on chilli so the mild Butter Chicken for $15 was his choice. This Girl chose her favourite, Lamb Saag Curry, $15. I like a little heat but I’m glad I cautiously chose medium. Dawat hot is for taste buds with super powers!
We also ordered the coconut rice $6, which Gore Grind Devotee totally loves, and Saffron rice $3 which was actually turmeric rice and a little disappointing.  Garlic naan $3, keema naan $4 and raita $4 completed the meal. This was more like a meal for three rather than two. Never fear, the cheerful Dawat staff are happy to pack up your leftovers as takeaway.
Our verdict, good tasty Indian, authentic … well, neither of us have been to India, but as authentic as any other Indian we’ve eaten and very good value.
We were the only people eating in on this visit, however there was a steady stream of take away orders. We’ve been back for grab and go and again noticed Dawat’s takeaway popularity. You get a 10 per cent discount on take away.

The Other Girl stopped in not long ago for takeaway too and the restaurant was over half full including a girls' night out, a couple of families and couples.

Be warned, these guys are cash only, so call into the ATM on your way!

Dawat is just off the main strip in Albert Road.

During This Girl’s first dining experience and in true Hobart fashion, a local complained that there was no parking right outside the door. There is plenty of free parking available along the main road and just out the back of the Moonah shopping precinct.

If you give Dawat a try, let us know what you thought.
