Dining at the Italian Club

A trattoria in NoHo
Pasta lovers unite.
Hobart’s Italian Club has opened its doors and kitchen to visitors.
With an autograph in the guest book, the uninitiated can gain entry to Hobart’s newest trattoria.
In the style of cultural and service clubs around this land, replete with fluros and red-checked tablecloths, the Australian-Italian Club is now serving inexpensive home-style meals to the public.
The Two Girls took Gore Grind Devote out for tea and this is what we ate:
Antipasto Misto with parma ham, salami, bocconcini, olives, sundried tomatoes and bread, small, $9.50.
Semifreddo al Caffe, a coffee mouse served with whipped cream, $8.50.
Torta di Ricotta, traditional Italian ricotta cheese cake, $9.50.
Flourless Chocolate Cake, $9.50.
We drank $7 Coronas, house Sauvignon Blanc and an Italian Prosecco for $6.50 a glass.
With the gnocci and the chocolate cake, The Two Girls decided Gore Grind chose best. We both bags the gnocci next time.
The trattoria has been open only a few weeks and is getting on its feet. Like a good wine, this establishment is going to develop over time. There is already tremendous good will. It’s not possible to fault the attentive and totally engaged staff who go out of their way to be of service.

Tip: Apparently a trattoria is somewhere in between a restaurant and an osteria. We’re no experts but for a review on Hobart’s osteria have a look here.
What we loved about the Italian Club was eating a comforting meal, in a casual setting and getting a bill that didn’t break the bank.
The Italian Club’s trattoria should be a real alternative to the cheap eats you can find on the Elizabeth Street main strip.
We reckon, give it a whirl.
