A recent catch up with one of This Girls oldest and dearest friends, the Cable Guy, and his partner saw us choosing Mae Waad as our venue of choice.The lads had been there before an assured me it was good!
Gai Sata $9.90
(sliced white bread the only letdown on this plate)
Located in the old Mai Ake in Elizabeth Street, you could be forgiven for thinking it is still empty after Mai Ake’s move to the waterfront.
Gyoza Goon $8.90
The décor and spaciousness of this restaurant make for a delightful dining experience and the waiting staff, while young, are efficient and pleasant.Cable Guy made sure to thank one waitress in particular for her lovely service.
Slipper Lobster $9.90
Our entrée’s consisted of Gyoza Goon – small pan fried prawn Gyoza, Slipper Lobster – grilled slipper lobster and eggplant with garlic chilli sauce and Gai Sata – marinated strips of chicken served with peanut sauce.
Kao Pad Neur Khem $18.50
For mains we ate Pia muk Had Sai – pan fried squid filled with chicken mince and a garlic five spice sauce. The impressive looking Pia Neung See-Ew – steamed blue eye fillets with Thai style sweet soy sauce and Kao Pad Neur Khem – fried rice with deep fried salty beef, topped with a fried egg.

Mae Waad is licenced but also one of the few byo restaurants with a reasonable corkage of $4.50.The lads came with a bottle of red which we quickly polished off and then purchased a bottle of Tassie Pinot from their wine list for just $35.
The prices are really reasonable and flavours so delightful This Girl hopes that the current handful of diners each night increase to ensure this little restaurant stays open.
