The brightest star in Hobart’s ‘now’ places with a voluminous menu. Get started with antipasto served individually or specially priced - any five is $36 or ten is $68 - like baked meatballs with Napoletana sauce; arancini, three cheeses with mushroom; or pickled baby calamari. ‘Guilt-free’ pizzas, gourmet toppings without the cheese and dough-overload. Try fettuccini aglio olio, breadcrumbs and garlic, $24; or boscaiola with chicken and confit of garlic cream sauce, $26. Desserts are for the serious sweet-tooth.
Make a reservation so you’re not disappointed.

Skewered meat cooked over a charcoal grill is a universal language. In Japanese, it’s yakitori. Three Japanese is a stylish, casual eatery with excellent service. Japanese ingredients are imported for authenticity and perishables are sourced locally and daily. Try Tsukemono (Japanese pickles), $10; Yaki-onigiri (rice ball), $10; and of course, the Kushi Set, five skewers, choice of meat and/or vegetables, $20.
Reservations recommended.

It’s the life of the North Hobart party. A retro café setting with extended opening hours and consistent quality. The largely tapas menu is priced between $3.50 - $18 per plate. Burgers and larger plates too.  They also offer the Chef’s Table, $75 for two people, with wine for $120. Try spiced lamb cutlets with cayenne and paprika celeriac puree, $15; wild mushroom salad with hazelnuts and shallot vinaigrette, $15.50; or prosciutto wrapped flathead, asparagus and caper butter, $27.

Contemporary Chinese in North Hobart. Beautifully presented with Asian-inspired light fittings: wood panelled or cherry blossom. Don’t shy away from favourite, salt and pepper tofu with parsley dressing – silken tofu, Sichuan salt and pepper flour and sesame oil, $16 - even our carnivore friends love it. Try Bang Bang chicken with shredded chicken breast, Sichuan chilli oil, leek, ginger and sesame oil, $16; or Chairman Mao Pork – crispy pork belly cubes, green beans, shaoxing wine, ginger, star anise and dark soy, $26. Generous serves are perfect for sharing.
