And so it will be with Dark Mofo’s Winter Feast, where there will be new territories to be discovered.

There will be sixty-five stallholders to choose from when Winter Feast opens on Wednesday, 17 June 2015 Princes Wharf 1.

Food and drink curator, Jo Cook, promises to deliver an eclectic line up of some of the best Tasmania has to offer. A few names from the big end of town will be there like Monty’s on Montpelier, Frank and The Source Restaurant. The Winter Feast is an opportunity to try a few of Hobart’s fancier establishments if they’ve been otherwise out of reach.

Jo’s included some of the names you would have seen at MoMa, Mona’s summer market: Rough Rice with moles and mescal, Chikko Café for Vietnamese street food and Black Mountain Ice-cream topped with cider-poached pears.

There are also some excellent local names too: Raspberry Fool for Gail Sellin’s dressed up comfort food – arguably the best Australiana-sweets around; Rin and Kinoko Deli for Japanese cuisine; Villino for some of Hobart’s best coffee; and Cygnet’s phoenix-rising, The Red Velvet Lounge, for pate and pickles, quince shortcake and custard.

For the skeptic and food-weary amongst us, there’s a few newer entries to whet your interest. Standouts include Krumbies for gooey melted chocolate and marshmallow goodness; Urban Bounty with free-range pies and sausage rolls; and Mint for Southeast Asian fusion.

They’ll be plenty of locally produced beers, ciders and spirits too with McHenry’s, Captain Bligh’s, Coal Valley Cider, and Mona will be there making their fabulous cocktails darling.
Don’t feel overwhelmed with the options. Follow This Girl’s lead. Review the program, short-list and remember each stall will host a four-item menu only.

Now just park all that predominantly Tasmanian industry that will be showcased at Winter Feast to the side for a moment. This Girl is most excited about is the Guest Chefs. Just another one of the gifts the Dark Mofo gives us is also access to some outstanding interstate chefs. Outside PW1 you will find a huge tent and cooking area. Each night, Dark Mofo will host a different Chef who will work with some of the best Tasmanian produce, and they’ve brought some big names:

Jake Kellie, formerly of Aria (Sydney) and Fat Duck (London) will start things off.
My number one pick is Martin Boetz on Thursday, 18 June. Martin is the man behind Longrain, Sydney and Melbourne, the best Thai restaurants in the country. You’ll recognise me because I’ll be the one waiting in line, banging my plate, singing ‘why are we waiting’.
The Sean Moran from Panaroma will inspire on Friday. I’m not going to miss him either.
Mike McEnearney, formerly of Sydney’s Rockpool, one of the finest restaurants in that city will show his stuff on Saturday, 20 June. I’m not going every night!
O Tama Carey, winner of last year’s Time Out Sydney’s Chef of the Year award and formerly of Berta will take the helm for the finale. I’ll be there too.

Winter Feast is a ticketed event; $10 or $20 entrance depending on the night. If you’re not quick, prepare to queue. Enjoy Winter Feast over five nights. Closing night is Sunday, 21 June 2015.
