Honey Badger Dessert Cafe

Honey Badger Dessert Cafe
Desserts are their own specialty. Being a great cook doesn’t mean you are a great dessert maker, but making great desserts means you're a great cook. Art and science are required in equal measure when it comes to making desserts. This Girl is often on the hunt for something sweet. Over the years I've lamented the absence of a place where you could go just for dessert.

Now Hobart has a dedicated dessert café, Honey Badger.

Honey Badger has some savoury options, including the intriguing mouthful, Badger Balls Toast Melt, but their focus is on sweet treats.
From our window bench seat, we watched two women contemplate the menu posted in front of the cafe. Unaware they were being observed, their heads drew closer together, they pointed, and read the descriptions on the menu out loud, gasped, and then broke into pleased smiles.

Honey Badger will be successful because it gives permission to our fantasies and asks to pleasure us.
Over two sittings we've now tried:
Honey Badger desserts are plain and simple comfort food. They're not high end restaurant and neither are they pedestrian cake. The menu is a combination of American traditions and some Asian-inspired creations. Plates are good old fashioned fun, enjoyable and beautifully constructed. They also make everything in house including the fluffy pillow-like marshmallows and brownies.

Honey Badger is appealing to customers who want an alternative third space. On any given Saturday afternoon you'll find it comfortably occupied with families, young people and lots of women, a demographic with a disproportionate amount of sweet tooths.
They opened mid-June and are a little overawed by their success to date. Honey Badger is a collaboration of six friends from Thailand with chef Sutinee Suntivatana who we reckon is pretty awesome. They love the quiet of Hobart and our clean air. They wanted to make a contribution and they have.
They’re located at 7 Salamanca Square, Hobart.
They’re open Tuesday – Thursday, 5.00 – 10.00 pm, Friday, 5.00 – 11.00 pm, Saturday 10.00 am – 11.00 pm and Sunday, 10.00 am – 10.00 pm.
